The position is a senior staff post in the Graduate School. The individual will work closely and collaboratively with the other units within the Division of Graduate Student Affairs--Graduate Professional Develop and Graduate International Outreach as well as the other Graduate School units--Administration, Editorial Office, Graduate Student Records, and Data Management/Analysis, Additionally, the person will work closely with the Dean of the Graduate School as well as the Assistant Dean for Administration.
- Provides oversight for directing, planning, developing and implementing programs and activities for the Office of Graduate Diversity Initiatives. Manages an annual operating budget (currently $2,575,107) and ensures expenditures follow UF, state and federal guidelines. Hires, trains, and supervises staff. Collects, verifies and organizes data for reports, research studies, and program evaluation reports as well as prepare and make presentations at professional meetings. Develops and collaborates with campus offices, UF academic units, and other support services to promote graduate diversity at UF. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive campus network of UF administrative personnel involved in graduate recruitment. Assists academic units to facilitate graduate student recruitment with a specific intent on expanding expand the diversity of the graduate student body and to develop effective approaches to do so with a clear focus on retention as well as graduation. Examples of some approaches could involve applying needs assessment, broad surveys, focus groups, town hall-type meetings, etc. to determine identify and address graduate students and graduate program needs in areas related to OGDI and the Graduate School overall. Take the lead on or collaborates in preparing and planning fundable proposals. Prepares and makes on-campus professional presentations, information briefs, and workshops involving recruitment, retention, and fellowship activities. Serve as liaison between campus Graduate Coordinators and students regarding enrollment of underrepresented students. Interact with university administrators and faculty to resolve specific admissions and/or registration issues for underrepresented and other students and ensure that information regarding university rules, policies and contracts are effectively disseminated. Additionally, oversee social media appropriate or relative to OGDI.
- Assists or take the lead in establishing the development of building trusting relationships with other institutions for recruiting graduate students and assist in placing graduated PhD students in faculty and postdoctoral positions. Look to establish a national outreach effort and the development of a collaborative projects with State University System Schools. Collaborate in establishing internship opportunities for graduate students. Service as the liaison between UF and State University System Schools to increase the number of in-state master’s and PhD students within the participating schools. Serve as a representative of UF and the Graduate School. Oversee and promote the following awards and fellowships: Supplement Awards, Travel Awards, BOE Summer program, FAMU, McNair, and McKnight Fellowship program.
- Provides support to graduate students by participating in the planning and development of campus wide orientation programs. Develops and oversee coordination of academic and social support activities. Interacts with graduate student organizations in support of diversity initiative efforts and activities and serving as a liaison to UF student organizations and associations. Coordinates with the Graduate Professional Development office workshops and orientations for program mentors/peer advisors and staff. Develop, direct, and provides oversight for On-Campus Visitation Programs
- Represent the university at conferences and meetings and other projects as assigned.
