Postdoctoral Position @ Vanderbilt University

September 14, 2018

The Cognition, Perception, Diagrams Lab at Vanderbilt University is recruiting a postdoc interested in working at the intersection of evolution education and cognitive/perceptual psychology. Specifically, I am looking for a scholar interested in conducting research investigating college students’ understanding of evolutionary trees (cladograms), including methods for improving students’ understanding. Some of my previous research in this area is described on my web site:https://my.vanderbilt.edu/lauranovick/

This competitive position would be funded by Vanderbilt University’s Academic Pathways Postdoctoral Fellowship Program: https://gradschool.vanderbilt.edu/postdoctoral/academic-pathways/index.php

The goal of this program is to increase the diversity of academic faculty by providing appropriate postdoctoral training for scholars from underrepresented groups.

The program includes leadership training, grant and manuscript writing and preparation, a multi-level mentoring framework, and substantial protected time for the pursuit of each fellow’s academic and scholarly objectives. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $60,000 for two years along with benefits, travel funding, and a research allowance.

Application details are available here:

The application window is October 1 to November 1, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis during October.

Candidates should have either (a) a PhD in biology and a strong interest in learning relevant cognitive and perceptual psychology or (b) a PhD in cognitive psychology and a strong interest in applying basic principles of cognition and perception to understanding domain-specific diagrams in biology. A commitment to conducting interdisciplinary research is critical.
