Massachusetts Science & Technology Policy Fellowship

The Massachusetts Science & Technology Policy Fellowship (MASTPF) is a yearlong professional development fellowship that prepares scientists and technical experts for careers in public service through full-time placements in the Massachusetts Legislature. Fellows gain firsthand experience with policymaking while developing the skills to become effective civic science leaders.

Massachusetts policymakers regularly make decisions involving complex scientific and technical issues, from energy and artificial intelligence to public health and the life sciences. Yet legislative offices often have limited capacity to assess rapidly evolving evidence and translate it into information that can support policymaking.

MASTPF helps fill that gap while providing fellows with intensive, real-world professional development. Fellows bring their scientific training into the legislature, learn how policy is developed in practice, and participate in a structured program of training, mentorship, and professional development that builds skills in policy analysis, collaboration, communication, and civic leadership.

Fellows may work across a wide range of scientific and technical policy issues depending on their legislative placement. MASTPF will also include a dedicated Climate & Energy Policy Track for individuals interested in working on climate resilience, mobility, clean energy, or related policy issues.
