TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship
The first of its kind, The MD Anderson Cancer Center TRIUMPH (Translational Research in Multi-Disciplinary Program) Postdoctoral Fellowship provides training in the art of translational research.
Who: The TRIUMPH fellowship is a highly competitive training program that seeks out talented graduate students who are poised to continue on with a productive postdoc career. Trainees come from around the world, to participate in this highly coveted fellowship, to work in MD Anderson’s state-of-the art research facilities and mentor under world-renowned experts in field. Our 30+ faculty mentoring roster is unmatched including a Nobel laureate, 5 National Academy members, 15 American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellows, and an AACR Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Basic Cancer Research. Trainees are further supported by a multidisciplinary committee which provides additional mentorship, networking, and job placement assistance after the program.
What: The TRIUMPH program is a unique fellowship designed around four innovative features: • Mentoring- Trainees are accepted into the program without a pre-determined mentor. The first 4-6 weeks of the fellowship allows the trainee to interview with different mentors before making their final selection. This approach places the trainee in the driver seat to ensure the best mentor: mentee match. Trainees will also form a committee with experts in the field from around the world to help guide them through their research project.
• Individualized Development Plan (IDP)- Developed in a collaborative fashion, this document helps to identify the fellow’s short- and long-term goals. The team will then create a roadmap to aid the trainee in getting them to where they want to be; thus, positioning them for success during the fellowship and beyond once they complete the program and take the next steps with their career.
• Didactic coursework- Fellows will take between 12-15 non-degree seeking credit hours at our graduate school to help fill in any voids in their training.
• Clinical rotations- Fellows have the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations providing them with the opportunity to see firsthand how their work could be translated into the clinical setting.
Where: Housed at the University of Texas MD Anderson, consistently ranked the number one cancer hospital and located in the largest medical center in the world, the TRIUMPH program offers fellows the opportunity to work in state-of-the art research facilities and collaborate with neighboring research institutions as part of the new Texas Medical Center’s translational research initiative-TMC3.
When: There are quarterly deadlines ( March 31st, June 30th, September 30th and December 31st) for this three-year long fellowship. We encourage applicants to apply within one year of graduation to secure their spot. Potential applicants may share their CV with the leadership team so that we can advise as to what deadline they should aim for based upon their current credentials and where they are at in their graduate program.
