The Laboratory

The van Galen laboratory is recruiting postdoctoral fellows to perform groundbreaking research on normal and malignant hematopoiesis. We develop and apply experimental and computational methods to push the technological boundaries that limit our current understanding of the development and progression of leukemia. With a focus on myeloid malignancies, we aim to understand epigenetic and transcriptional factors that contribute to clonal expansions by integrating multiple layers of information using single-cell technologies and computational innovations. We also study stress signaling in leukemia cells, in particular to explore if altered metabolic and proteomic states lead to acute myeloid leukemia cell vulnerabilities that can be therapeutically targeted. The ultimate goal is to improve the lives of leukemia patients.

The Institute

The van Galen laboratory is located in the Harvard Institutes of Medicine building, 4 Blackfan Circle, in the center of the Longwood Medical Area. Our primary affiliations are the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Division of Hematology and Harvard Medical School Department of Medicine. The laboratory works closely with the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT and is a member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. These institutions house scientific and clinical experts in a wide variety of areas, enabling interactions with a myriad of collaborators and communities. We have access to state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, computational biology, single-cell analyses, flow cytometry, etc. These rich resources allow laboratory members to thrive in a supportive and well-equipped environment.

The Candidate

Applicants must have (almost) completed a PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics or a related field, critical and independent thinking skills, enthusiasm to be part of a community that drives science forward and an ambition to succeed.
