This role assists leadership in providing expert leadership and managerial guidance for the performance of the Department of Medical Ethics [DME]. The role assists the leadership in planning, organizing, leading, and managing the resources of the Department of Medical Ethics for the effective and efficient achievement of organizational and departmental goals and priorities.

The role actively communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with leadership throughout CHOP to create partnerships that enhance the ethical quality of deliberation, decision-making, and conduct of all members of the CHOP staff.


What you will do

  • Has lead responsibility for a specific function of the Department:
  • Education and engagement of CHOP staff regarding medical ethics
  • Participates in Department activities regarding the following functions:
  • Conduct of clinical ethics consultations
  • Support of the CHOP Ethics Committee
  • Development, review, and revision of ethically pertinent CHOP policies
  • Advancing the quality of pediatric ethics with patients, families, and society
  • Wide-ranging efforts to improve the ethical quality of CHOP staff conduct
  • Creates and maintains an environment where staff feel valued, appreciated, and recognized.
  • Recruits, coaches, develops, and retains qualified, competent staff. Ensures that all staff meet all requirements of their positions.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Bioethics or similar field of study Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years related ethics experience Required
  • At least three (3) years clinical ethics consultation experience Required
  • At least one (1) year lead, supervisory or management experience Required
  • At least nine (9) years related ethics experience in health care setting Preferred
  • At least five (5) years clinical ethics consultation experience Preferred
  • At least three (3) years clinical care experience Preferred
