TEACHING-FOCUSED (ALTERNATE STREAM) POSITION IN CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

The Department of Biology, York University invites applications for a teaching-focused (alternate stream) tenure‐track position in Cell and Molecular Biology at the rank of Assistant Lecturer, to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teachundergraduate courses and to provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular development (design) and pedagogical innovation.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences (specifically in the area of cell and molecular biology) with postdoctoral experience in the field of science education and biology education research.
Applicants will have developed and implemented laboratory courses at the undergraduate level, and should have experience directing teaching laboratories (e.g., overall operation of the labs, training of TAs, liaising with technical staff). Applicants will demonstrate excellence in teaching and proven dedication to using innovative, effective evidence-based approaches to teaching university-level science. We seek applicants with a record of pedagogical innovation in experiential education and technology enhanced learning. Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to design new undergraduate laboratory courses, revise and enhance existing lab courses, and align and integrate lecture curriculum with learning outcomes. Specifically, the position will include, but will not be limited to designing, developing and teaching a fourth-year project-based lab course that will provide students with experiential learning opportunities using state-of-the-art scientific equipment and experimental project design skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team and within the department. The successful candidate will also work closely with an Educational Development Specialist in the Faculty of Science to develop new experiential learning opportunities within the Department of Biology. The position will also include service.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
