Science Writer @ Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard University

The Walensky laboratory of cancer chemical biology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School is seeking an experienced, productive, and resourceful science writer who will partner with the Principal Investigator and laboratory members to maximize the output of scientific journal article and grant submissions. The science writer will be embedded in a dynamic and multidisciplinary research laboratory dedicated to advancing basic and translational discoveries that will improve the quality and quantity of life of childhood cancer patients. 

 

Specific duties will include drafting and editing journal articles and grant applications in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and laboratory trainees (staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students), and overseeing submission and revision processes. Attention to written detail, including formatting guidelines and rigorous, clear, and lively scientific description, are essential.  The successful applicant will serve as a critical partner to Dr. Walensky in his duties as laboratory PI, clinician, and Director of the Harvard/MIT MD-PhD program.

 

Specific skills and personal attributes required include: high energy and upbeat multi-tasker, supremely organized with exquisite attention to detail, independent thinker and doer, exemplary written and oral communication skills, computer and technology savvy, strong people skills. Additional qualities include strong collaborative team spirit and success balancing multiple projects and deadlines.

 

Qualifications:

 

Talented science writer with a PhD degree in a scientific discipline and minimum of 3 years’ experience in professional science writing and editing, along with journal publication and NIH grant editing/writing experience. Relevant scientific fields include, for example, chemical and structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology, experimental therapeutics, and translational medicine. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, however we will consider candidates interested in working part-time (minimum 24 hours per week).
