Director, Office for Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development (new position) at the University of Minnesota Medical School

The Program Director for Professional Development will lead/direct the creation and implementation of enhanced professional and career advising services specifically targeted for biomedical sciences PhD and postdoctoral trainees to meet their unique career development needs. The position will report to the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and work closely with a number of stakeholders, including the Office of Graduate Research, Education and Training, the Medical School Alumni Relations Office, the Graduate School Director of Academic and Professional Development and the Graduate School Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs as well as graduate student and postdoctoral associations.


Qualifications
Required:

    B.A. or B.S. is required, biomedical sciences preferred; along with 8 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the management and administration of a higher education dept or program involving students, employers, and/or alumni.

    Experience in mentoring and advising students.
    Experience organizing retreats, courses and/or workshops for adult learners.
    Experience teaching or leading workshops for adult learners.
    Event and program management experience.
    Experience collecting survey and outcome data and gaining stakeholder input.
    Understanding of leadership principles either through application or training.
    Writing experience, including publishing in scientific journals, books and/or writing grants

Skills and Knowledge:
    Understanding of how doctoral and postdoctoral experience can translate to experience required by industry.

    Excellent relationship-building skills.
    Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds.
    Demonstrated commitment to promoting an inclusive culture.
    Prior training in career advising/coaching desired

Preferred:
   A PhD in a STEM field is highly desirable
