Writing Tutor @ HMS Office for Graduate Education

The Office for Graduate Education is seeking applicants for a new position of Writing Tutor for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year. This tutor supports excellence in writing for students across the eight HMS Master’s Programs (https://hms.harvard.edu/education-admissions/graduate-education). Students in these programs range in experience from post-baccalaureate students to students with professional degrees and mid-career professionals. Approximately 50% of our student body are international students. The role is summarized below:

 
  1. Employed as a temporary employee, working up to 20 hours per week for the remainder from the time of hiring through June 2021. 

  2. Meet for individual online consultations with students across the master’s programs to work with them on writing projects required for courses, as well as capstone and thesis writing.

  3. Work with students to help them with grammar, syntax, thesis development, organization of logical arguments, proper citation, and research background development. Experience working with students for whom English is a second language is a plus. 

  4. Manage weekly calendar of consultation appointments with light administrative support provided by the Office for Graduate Education.

  5. Be available for occasional meetings with representatives from the Office for Graduate Education and master’s program leadership to discuss individual student issues.  

  6. Successful candidates must be excited to work with a highly diverse community of learners.

Consideration of applications will begin on (2 weeks from date this is posted), and Writing Tutor(s) will be hired as soon as suitable candidate(s) are identified. 

 

Writing Tutors will be appointed as temporary employees paid hourly. Compensation is $20 per hour with a maximum of 20 hours per week.  We are seeking to hire no more than 1-2 writing tutors who can work a combined 20 hours per week. Writing Tutors must be eligible for U.S. employment.
