Job Summary:
The College of Science at the University of Utah invites applications for a broadly trained scientist to help develop and implement the new Science Research Initiative (SRI). The SRI focuses on providing undergraduate students access to authentic course-based research experiences and research streams in their first and second year of college. This faculty position is intended for candidates who desire to focus their professional activities on the development and mentorship of undergraduates through high-impact research experiences, while providing access to a world-class community of researchers and research infrastructure that may not be available at primarily undergraduate institutions. Responsibilities:
We seek candidates committed to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research mentorship, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate constructively with faculty with diverse scientific interests, and experience implementing and assessing undergraduate curricular outcomes. The successful candidate will teach a newly developed course, “Interdisciplinary Principles of Scientific Inquiry”, and will develop and lead new research stream(s) in the candidate’s areas of interest. In addition, the candidate will work with other faculty members to develop, manage and oversee additional research streams, train teaching assistants, and manage student placement into individual PI labs at the conclusion of their SRI experience. And, the candidate will create and foster a culturally diverse and inclusive educational environment. Finally, the successful candidate will help identify and evaluate overall program outcomes.

Preferences:
An ideal candidate will be a broadly trained scientist with a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology or mathematics (or a closely related field); have undergraduate teaching experience demonstrating a strong commitment to undergraduate mentorship and development; be an excellent team player and communicator; and have experience conceiving and executing complex projects. This position consists of an eleven-month, career-line faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in an appropriate department within the College of Science.
