Social Issues in Biology Journal Club

October 2, 2019

It is 2019, and the first germ-line-edited humans have been born. Measles has returned as a public health threat due to an anti-vaccination movement. Maternal mortality is on the rise - particularly among black women. Political discourse suggests an increasing distrust of science, and Congress refuses to increase funding for federal research grants. The new Jurassic Park movies are equating ancient DNA research with dinosaur explosions.

Let's discuss this.

We would like to invite you to join our Social Issues in Biology Journal Club! This journal club will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:00 p.m. to discuss both academic and non-academic readings (food provided). Our goal is to understand biology better using tools from outside of biology - philosophy, economics, history, sociology, pop culture, personal experiences. Suggested readings will be distributed in advance of each session, but these pieces have been selected to spur interesting discussions. No pressure to read beforehand! We don't know where we'll end up, but we'd like you to come with us!

Come learn more! Our journal club kickoff event will be on October 15th from 5:30-7 PM, RSVP here.
