JOB OVERVIEW
Applying advanced professional career development concepts, the Program Director will lead the Office of Career and Professional Development’s (OCPD’) efforts to develop experiential learning opportunities for career and professional development to UCSF students and postdoctoral Scholars, including the MIND career exploration and GSICE internship programs. Researches, plans, and develops relationships with potential employers, academic departments, and student organizations to meet the career development needs of students and postdocs. Provides career counseling for populations that require special expertise with graduate / professional students and postdoctoral scholars in the biomedical sciences.

The goal of the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) is to help UCSF biomedical trainees build the professional skills necessary for career success. This growing and dynamic office provides programs, services, individual assistance, and web and print resources, all designed to enhance the academic, professional, and career development of our students and post-graduate trainees.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s / advanced degree in related field and five+ years of related experience, and / or equivalent experience / training
• Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques
• Demonstrated experience working with graduate students and / or postdoctoral scholars
• Advanced knowledge of career paths inside and outside of academe for PhDs
• Group facilitation / meeting management skills: ability to coordinate meetings and effectively facilitate group dynamics. For example, the MIND Program Director will coordinate planning meetings for curriculum development, and moderate panel discussions among faculty and guest professionals
• Strong ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills
• Strong ability to work with people from diverse cultures

Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design
• Advanced knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
