Postdoctoral Position

Brain Metastasis Group

The Brain Metastasis Group (www.valientelab.com) is an EMBO YIP laboratory part
of the Molecular Oncology Programme at CNIO (www.cnio.es). The lab studies the
biology of secondary brain tumors using mouse models and human samples. Given
our unique background we can apply an interdisciplinary approach to interrogate the
brain metastasis microenvironment and to exploit it therapeutically.

We want to expand the implications of our recent key findings in the brain metastasis
microenvironment (Priego et al. Nat Med. 2018). Specifically, we want to characterize
the biology of the reactive astrocytes that have been modified by the presence of
cancer cells with a particular interest in the metabolic and epigenetic changes that
could be responsible for their pro-tumorigenic properties. The final goal of the project
is to develop innovative ways of targeting brain metastases but also to exploit novel
biomarkers. Even though the project will be focused on brain metastasis, we will seek
to explore the possibility that the same principles identified in astrocytes could apply
to other brain disorders.

Applicants with a PhD and recent experience in any related field (Neuroscience,
Cancer Biology, Metabolism, Epigenetics,…) and a competitive track record (main
author publications during the last 2 years in high impact journals/ leading journals in
the respective field) are encouraged to apply. The project will involve the analysis in
vitro (primary astrocytes), ex vivo (organotypic brain cultures) and in vivo (brain
metastasis experimental models) of reactive astrocytes associated with brain
metastasis. The development of new mouse models, -omic approaches, and various
molecular biology techniques will be used throughout the project. The position is funded but the candidate will be expected to obtain her/ his own funding with full support to national and international calls.

Candidates interested must submit a single pdf document to mvaliente@cnio.es
containing:
-cover letter (max 1 page)
-short CV (max 2 pages)
-3 references (no letters are needed at this point).
Those candidates not following this application format will not be considered.
The position will remain open until the position filled. Candidates can join the lab
immediately.
