Post-doc positions for in vitro synthetic biology/self-assembly project @ UCSB

Two post-doc positions, titled ‘Keck Postdoctoral Fellows’, are available at UC Santa Barbara for a collaborative project between the groups of Omar Saleh and Enoch Yeung. Scientifically, the project is focused on creating synthetic organelles: We aim to exploit DNA self-assembly to create and study the liquid-liquid phase separation processes and active enzymatic control mechanisms present in eukaryotic chromatin. The experimental work will involve bottom-up biomolecular design, DNA/protein biochemistry, high-throughput measurement modalities, and quantitative microscopy; these will be supported by analysis efforts based in concepts of physics, control theory and machine learning.


Optimally, candidates would be accomplished experimentalists that hold (or will soon hold) a Ph.D., and have experience that is broadly relevant to one or more of the areas mentioned above (e.g. in soft matter physics, biophysics, biochemistry, bioengineering, or other related fields). The project will be carried out by a small team, so prospective candidates should be interested in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary working situation. Appointments are expected to be for 2 to 3 years; other details are available upon request.
