Natural Science Lecturer in the Core Curriculum @ Boston University

February 17, 2021

Boston University’s Core Curriculum Program in the College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in the Core Natural Sciences, beginning July 1, 2021. This is a full-time teaching faculty position and is a non-research, non-tenure track appointment. The CAS Core Curriculum is an academically integrated program that includes courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. As a learning community, we believe that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of the program. We seek faculty who demonstrate a broad knowledge of the physical and life sciences and who have an interest in developing pedagogies that encourage students from all disciplines to engage with the sciences. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in physics.

Duties include collaborating with other faculty to maintain and deliver two team-taught courses, working with the senior laboratory coordinator, leading weekly discussion and laboratory sections, delivering lectures in areas of specialization, and helping to work collaboratively on new curricula. Courses are at the freshman and sophomore level and cover both the physical and life sciences. Initial appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal. Lecturers must have a PhD in or related to the physical or life sciences, established teaching skills, ability to work well in a collaborative environment, and a strong interest in teaching within a general education curriculum. This is a nine-month faculty position with salary payments spread over twelve months. We also provide support for conferences that encourage pedagogical development.
