 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Jeffrey Richardson Fellowship 2019

The HMS Committee on Global Projects and Sites is pleased to announce a request for proposals for the Jeffrey Richardson Fellowship. The Fellowship, funded through a bequest of William L. Richardson in 1864, is to support continued studies in the U.S. or abroad by a recent graduate of Harvard Medical School.

The Committee seeks proposals from recent graduates who wish to continue their studies either in the U.S. or abroad or both and can demonstrate a commitment to research or service in resource-poor settings. A single award of $50,000 in total costs will be made in 2019 and may be used to support travel, living costs, and/or educational expenses for a period of up to one year. Applications for a second year of funding will be considered.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest describing their personal commitment to research or service in resource-poor settings, a summary (not to exceed three pages) of their proposed course of study, research project, or other academically focused project, a curriculum vitae, and a simple budget. Letters of support should be provided by the research mentor/project supervisor, the department chair or other appropriate official, and the host institution or agency. The host institution/agency must provide written acknowledgment of its willingness to support the awardee.

The awardee shall be known as the Jeffrey Richardson Fellow and will meet with the HMS Committee both at the start of their Fellowship and at its conclusion to provide the Committee with oral presentations on the status of their project. Each Fellow will also be required to submit a written final report summarizing her/his project at the conclusion of the Fellowship. All research that results in publication shall credit the Jeffrey Richardson Fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Applicants are invited to submit proposals to the Committee by email to naima_abdullahi@hms.harvard.edu. The deadline for submission of proposals is May 1, 2019 with awards to be made no later than June 30, 2019.
