The Graduate College at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar Coordinator, Program Coordinator I or II to provide leadership and service to the postdoctoral and graduate student communities.

This position will plan and facilitate professional development and mentoring activities for postdoctoral scholars and graduate students; serve as a resource for postdocs and graduate students, and advise the postdoctoral organization. The position will assist in the management of postdoc appointments and records; propose policies that promote the well-being and professional development of postdocs; act as a liaison between hiring units and appropriate university offices, and represent the interests of the postdoc community with appropriate university offices. This position will work with relevant organizations and the Graduate Career Services Office to track career outcomes of graduate students and postdocs. This position will also promote a sense of community among postdocs, and manage communications to and about postdocs via webpage, newsletter, and email.

In addition to the duties above, the Program Coordinator II will be expected to not only participate in career services and advising of the postdoctoral community, but will also creatively and innovatively devise, new, more effective approaches to these functions. The Program Coordinator II will also be expected to provide leadership related to changes in business processes related to postdoctoral appointments.

The successful candidate will possess accomplished interpersonal skills; the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and effectively lead group discussions; and the ability to work independently and solve complex issues.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience:
The above qualifications are for the Program Coordinator I.

Program Coordinator II: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 8 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree
Experience working in a higher education setting
Experience in leadership or event planning
Experience working with diverse populations, including international students
Experience working as an academic advisor or in a career counseling setting
Experience working with graduate students or postdocs
Experience working with private industry partners
