This is not a fellowship announcement, but rather a supplement available for folks who already have a NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Award (NRSA) fellowship. Yesterday NIH posted an Announcement (NOT-OD-21-069) as well as a Notice of Special Interest (NOT-OD-21-070) that details funds available for NRSA fellows for childcare. Specifically:

• NRSA fellows can request $2,500 per budget period for childcare provided by a licensed childcare provider
• Applicants are encouraged to apply for all remaining years; e.g., if they have 2 years left they should apply for 2 years of childcare costs ($5,000)
• If both parents are NRSA fellows then each parent is eligible for $2,500 per budget period
• We are anticipating a “Phase 2” of this effort to take affect for fiscal year 2022, where a “similar cost will be provided for NRSA-supported trainees” – more information about that will be released at a later time

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning on April 8, 2021. Please spread this exciting Notice of Special Interest and Announcement to trainees!
