In 1991, the Smith Family Foundation created a grants program to support promising junior faculty who were beginning to establish their own independent laboratories and research programs. Since 1992, the Program has funded 181 scientists for a total investment of $38.3 million.   Applications may focus on all fields of basic biomedical science.
