Job Summary
Responsibilities
-
Implement institutional strategic priorities to foster an inclusive climate and increase diversity in the University of Chicago Biological Science Division (BSD) and in the national scientific workforce.

Advance diversity and inclusion efforts in the basic science departments including the graduate programs and postdoctoral training programs.

Work with the Dean for Graduate Affairs and the Dean and Assistant Dean of Diversity & Inclusion for the BSD to develop, implement and assess activities to meet the diversity and inclusion needs of graduate students and postdoctoral trainees.

Participate in trainee recruitment efforts by attending national recruitment fairs and conferences, develop communication plan to incentivize prospective students to apply and admitted applicants to accept their offer of admission.

Actively engage national networks, consortia, working groups, and other collaborative entities to support the successful recruitment of graduate students and postdoctoral trainees from historically groups underrepresented in science.

Work with the graduate and postdoctoral programs, including their faculty leads, to enhance the climate for trainees from underrepresented groups.

Act as a liaison to the basic science department leaders to enact departmental diversity plans, including best practices around diversity recruitment.

Support office of Diversity & Inclusions efforts to support outreach to underrepresented minority scholars who might be interested in joining the University of Chicago.

Provide active mentorship to trainees, such as during the development and establishment of diversity and inclusion initiatives, including student-organized recruitment activities and outreach to the community.

Liaison on campus with local groups such as Chicago chapter for SACNAS, Graduate Recruitment Initiatives Team (GRIT), graduate program admissions committees; and formal campus groups such as the Provost’s Office, Center for Identity and Inclusion, and Employee Labor Relations.

Function as a resource for BSD STEM pipeline programs.

Staff administrative committees as assigned.

Serves as a resource for program information. Resolves problems or questions referred by program staff, University administrators, or other contingencies.

Gathers and analyzes data for possible solutions for faculty-related issues. Writes reports and expands knowledge and experience in areas.

Performs other related work as needed.
