The College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University seeks a distinguished researcher
and academic leader to be Director of the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB). Research expertise
in SMB represents the broad disciplines of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Cell and Developmental
Biology/Genetics, and Microbiology/Infectious Disease. The research focus of SMB centers on the
application of functional genomics and other molecular techniques to 1) chromosome biology and DNA
repair mechanisms, 2) animal reproduction and development, and 3) biology of bacteria, archaea, and
viruses, as well as their roles in pathogenesis and immunology. The School also has a growing
educational research program focused on undergraduate instruction, learning, cognition, and inclusive
excellence. The Director’s portfolio includes fiscal management of SMB, participation in and promotion
of mentoring and professional development for faculty members and fostering curricular development
and scholarship in teaching. The successful candidate will have a record of academic leadership,
extramurally funded and internationally recognized research, and excellence in graduate education.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate [PhD/MD/DVM or equivalent] in the field of biomedical
sciences or a related field. Applicants must be eligible for academic appointment at the level of
Professor. Eligibility includes at least five (5) years of service in an academic position at the level of full,
associate, or assistant rank professor with a demonstrated outstanding record of achievement in
teaching and research in the candidate’s field of study, as well as a record of exceptional service and
leadership.
