Director of Health Careers Advising @ Cornell University

April 5, 2022

Health Careers Advising offers professional guidance and support to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on the Ithaca campus, as well as recent alumni interested in pursuing careers broadly in the health professions, including medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, physician assistant, public health, nursing, veterinary medicine, etc. We are looking for a Director of Health Careers Advising to oversee the administrative and academic mission of Health Careers advising, guiding students on their individual journeys toward a career in the health professions, from initial healthcare career exploration through the professional school application process. Our goal is to help our students find their unique niche as part of the health-related workforce that increasingly reflects the needs and diversity of our society.

What You Will Do:

The Director of Health Careers Advising will lead the transition of the current Health Careers advising structure out of the university’s Office of Career Services into the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. This transition is intended to embed the Office of Health Careers Advising in the heart of the academic enterprise to facilitate strong connections with the academic and career advising community across the colleges, schools, and units. Further, the Director will work to enhance the external presence of the Office of Health Careers Advising within the broader health careers community.

The Director will be responsible for: reimagining the multifaceted student advising experience; creating innovative programs, resources, and services to support students’ exploration of possible pathways in human clinical or animal health professions; understanding the curricular and co-curricular requirements needed for students to be competitive candidates for admission to post-baccalaureate programs and professional schools; and evaluating student progress toward meeting these requirements. The Director will build upon existing partnerships across the colleges, schools and units on the Ithaca campus, Weill Cornell Medicine in NYC, and the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program with Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM), The Rockefeller University (RU), and the Sloan Kettering Institute for Cancer Research (SKI).
