Position Overview |
Provide individual and group career counseling/job search coaching to graduate/professional students in order to help them make informed career decisions and prepare for an effective job searches. The person in this position will use techniques and presenting resources appropriate for each client’s stage in the career development process. It will be expected that the Counselor will work with students to translate their resumes, curriculum vitae, or other materials to speak to non-academic and academic recipients. The Career Counselor, Graduate Students will also coordinate implementation of career programming efforts. This includes career education and networking programs, career fairs, and presentation requests.

Duties and Responsibilities |
1. Provide individual and group career coaching sessions with Graduate/professional on-campus and online students |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
Minimum of a Master’s degree.
At least 2 years of experience during or after graduate school in Career Services, Human Resources, or a related field.
Knowledge of and ability to effectively use helping skills in individual career counseling appointments
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Able to learn SharePoint; Qualtrics; Smart Classroom technology; Marquette Career Network (PeopleGrove); ImaginePhD; and Handshake (online career platform) including troubleshoot and/or report problems, and teach others how to use system
Articulate thoughts and express ideas effectively using oral, written and non-verbal communication skills as well as listening for meaning to gain understanding in person and in writing
Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively with others in a team setting through shared responsibility, empathy and respect; seek and appreciate the viewpoints of those from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions and lifestyles
Exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, synthesize information, make decisions and solve problems; the ability to think critically and strategically to develop original ideas and innovative solutions
Demonstrate integrity, resilience, accountability and ethical behavior; the ability to take initiative, maintain effective work habits (prioritize, plan and manage work) to produce high quality results and project a professional presence
Plan and execute events including, but not limited to: group advising sessions, graduate student week events, alumni gatherings, etc.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
Completion of PhD
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Appreciation for and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Experience working with graduate students
Experience in a college career services and/or human resources setting
Understanding of student development and career development theories
Experience coordinating programs and events
