ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, GRADUATE STUDENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTCareer Advising and Professional Development,  to provide the vision, strategic planning, and leadership for a campus-wide program focused on the professional development of graduate students, leading to careers within and beyond academia.  Will actualize, expand, and deliver a full-range of workshops/seminars, coordinate professional development across MIT, and work with departments to create professional development in their units; establish and maintain a co-curricular professional development curriculum that provides graduate students with key skills needed before completing their degrees (i.e., career advancement, communication, interpersonal skills, leadership/mentoring, personal development, social responsibility, and teaching); facilitate productive collaborations across campus that promote professional development; and serve as an advocate for graduate student needs. 

 

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in counseling, higher education, student services, or related area; seven years’ experience in a career center or higher education setting related to career/professional development, preferably working with graduate students; understanding of science and technology careers and where analytically-oriented graduates can add value in a world science and engineering graduates are increasing worldwide; experience developing, implementing, and delivering professional development programs; knowledge and appreciation of cross-cultural and bias issues and ability to work with diverse populations; strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills; ability to engage in multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; self-motivation; and the ability to listen carefully and communicate tactfully, work effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of constituents at a research institution, and establish rapport with postdocs in order to help them develop their career plans.  Seek someone interested in MIT’s mission and in extending that education to contributing to society and solving the world’s problems.  Job #19131-10

Salary range:  $86,103-93,000
