 

#  Assistant Professor in Data Visualization and Analytics @ University of Washington

 The School of Interdisciplinary Arts &amp; Sciences (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) has a full time (100% FTE) tenure track Assistant Professor (9-month service period) in Data Visualization and Analytics position with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2025. Possible areas of focus for these positions include: computational biology, computational social science, data science, data visualization art, digital geographies, digital humanities, scientific visualization, geographic visualization, geospatial data analytics, quantitative literacy, statistics, and statistics education.

 This position will be expected to carry out an active research agenda (area of emphasis is open) and teach undergraduate courses in data visualization, applied statistics, and data analytics as part of IAS’s rapidly growing BA and BS degree programs in [Data](https://www.uwb.edu/ias/undergraduate/majors/data-visualization) [Visualization](https://www.uwb.edu/ias/undergraduate/majors/data-visualization) and minor in [Data Analytics Minor](https://www.uwb.edu/student-academic-success/academic-initiatives/data-analytics-minor/). The typical teaching load for the tenure track in IAS is 5 courses spread across 3 quarters.

 IAS is a non-departmentalized unit of about 70 full-time faculty and more than 20 [undergraduate](https://www.uwb.edu/ias/undergraduate/majors) and [graduate](https://www.uwb.edu/ias/graduate) degree programs that bring together the arts, humanities, social and natural sciences. Applicants are encouraged to discuss how they see their research and teaching connecting and contributing to this highly interdisciplinary environment.

 IAS provides a rigorous liberal arts education that draws connections across academic disciplines and links classroom learning to community-engaged problem solving in the public and private sectors. The liberal arts context of our programs in data visualization and analytics means that we engage students in the technical skills of the field alongside the ethical, political, and moral dimensions of data analysis and communication.
