# Teaching and Learning Week at HGSE #### calendar\_today Date and Time **October 18, 2018** All day Dear Friends, I am delighted to announce that the sixth annual **Teaching and Learning Week at HGSE** will be held from **Monday, October 15 to Friday, October 19**. A website containing comprehensive information about all *Teaching and Learning Week* activities will be shared in the coming week**.** *Teaching and Learning Week* offers a variety of engaging opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to share and explore effective teaching and learning practices taking place at HGSE. Whether it is early childhood, K12, higher education,informal settings, or workplace learning, teaching and learning are at the core of what we do as educators. *Teaching and Learning Week* is a chance for our community to consider and reflect on our own experiences as learners and facilitators of others’ learning. Activities include: - a session exploring the capacities needed to make rapid, flexible [instructional decisions](https://my.gse.harvard.edu/hgse-community-calendar?trumbaEmbed=view=event&eventid=129634171) (work that is funded by the Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching) - an interactive [session on encouraging classroom dialogue](https://my.gse.harvard.edu/hgse-community-calendar?trumbaEmbed=view=event&eventid=129634205) - a music night for families focused on building children's awareness and empathy for cultures around the world - a hands-on [session on leveraging the science of learning](https://my.gse.harvard.edu/hgse-community-calendar?trumbaEmbed=view=event&eventid=129635505) and featuring HGSE’s *Instructional Moves*project that showcases high-leverage teaching strategies - an open class with [T550 Designing for Learning by Creating](https://courses.my.harvard.edu/psp/courses/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/h/?tab=HU_CLASS_SEARCH&SearchReqJSON=%7B%22PageNumber%22:1,%22PageSize%22:%22%22,%22SortOrder%22:%5B%22IS_SCL_SUBJ_CAT%22%5D,%22Facets%22:%5B%5D,%22Category%22:%22HU_SCL_SCHEDULED_BRACKETED_COURSES%22,%22SearchPropertiesInResults%22:true,%22FacetsInResults%22:true,%22SaveRecent%22:true,%22TopN%22:%22%22,%22SearchText%22:%22t550%22,%22DeepLink%22:false%7D) - an event co-offered between Gutman Library and Harvard Teacher Fellows on [Learning with Digital Media from the Library of Congress](https://my.gse.harvard.edu/hgse-community-calendar?trumbaEmbed=view=event&eventid=129496100) - a live, interactive cooking demo hosted by the Office of Student Affairs and the Gutman Commons Café (with take-home treats cooked during the learning experience) In addition, continuing a popular tradition, each morning of *Teaching and Learning Week* will begin with the release of an essay from an HGSE faculty member reflecting on their practice as a teacher. Also, be on the lookout for tent cards around campus that show selected “big ideas about learning” and when we see them in action.
