**SPRING 2019 PATENT LAW COURSE**  
   
**Overview:**  
In collaboration with **Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garret & Dunner, LLP (Finnegan)**, one of the largest law firms focused exclusively on the practice of intellectual property (IP) law, the Harvard Biotech Club will be organizing a **5-week Patent Law Info-Course** for students and postdocs with life science backgrounds. Please join us to learn more about the IP practice and issues in the following topic areas. Meeting locations will alter between Finnegan and Harvard Medical School, exact locations will be announced two weeks prior to the first class.  
   
   
**Proposed Topics of Discussion:**  
   
**Session 1**: Overview of Patent Law; Natural Products/ Section 101  
**Session 2**: FDA  
**Session 3:** Antibodies/ Written Description  
**Session 4**: CRISPR/Claims  
**Session 5:** Panel discussion about a career in patent law followed by an informal social hour

Thursday, March 28; 4:00-5:30 pm, HMS

Thursday, April 18; 4:00-5:30 pm (back-up date for inclement weather)  
   
**Requirements:**   
   
This course will be limited to 30 people maximum. Participants are required to attend at least 4 sessions. To ensure that the limited number of spots are given to those who are committed to attending the course in its entirety, $50 deposit checks will be required for attendance. Checks will be returned to those who meet the minimum attendance of 4 sessions.

3. **Spots will be filled on a first come, first served-basis**
4. **Final roster of the course will be sent out to participants no later than March 1, 2019**

**Course Information:**  
The Patent Law Info-course features a combination of lecture and interactive workshops. The first few lecture sessions will introduce students to select important topics in the patent system and process. The sessions will teach the students to important elements of patent law through discussion of court cases and introduce students with the teaching style common to U.S. law schools. The workshop is designed to familiarize students to life in a patent law firm, where students will be introduced to tasks frequently performed by patent agents and patent attorneys, such as drafting a patent application, and conducting a Freedom to Operate Search.
