Mental health is often viewed as a personal, individual issue. But did you know that our culture and background play an important role in mental health experiences - from how we assess mental health and how we describe our mental health symptoms (emotionally or physically), or even when we decide to seek treatment, if at all? In this panel discussion, we will discuss how culture impacts our view of mental health, how to overcome some of the barriers posed by cultural expectations, and what the biomedical research community can do to promote inclusive wellness .

This is a one-hour panel discussion followed by facilitated small group discussions where we will have the opportunity to discuss the impact of culture on our mental health and practice skills to assist overcoming barriers imposed by the cultural norms. Because mental health experts will facilitate the small groups, you must register in advance to participate. To register, please visit https://www.training.nih.gov/sas/_20/1987/. Registrants will be provided a link to the webinar on the morning of November 2.
