The Biology Teaching Assistant Project (BioTAP) is a research coordination network funded by the National Science Foundation (DBI 1539903) to empower institutions to use research to improve the quality of graduate student teaching and professional development for teaching.

We are extremely excited to announce the first BioTAP Virtual Conference to be held on Monday, October 29, from Noon – 4:00 pm EST. Please see abbreviated information in the attachment.

Dr. Mark Connolly will be presenting a keynote on his research related to Doctoral Teaching Development Outcomes for Early-Career STEM Scholars (see his recent publication in the January 2018 issue of CBE-LSEhttps://www.lifescied.org/doi/10.1187/cbe.17-02-0039) starting at Noon. After 12:45, some of the first BioTAP Scholars will present invited talks on the research results they generated on graduate teaching assistant teaching professional development after a year in the program – schedule announced by October 15.

Please hold the conference time on your calendar. The conference will be held via Zoom, which will allow folks to join and leave the conference as their schedule permits.

We would also like to invite submissions for presentations by those who are conducting research on graduate teaching assistant teaching professional development. Depending on the number of submissions, these may be traditional 15 minute talks or we may explore lightning talks. The deadline for submissions is Monday, October 8, with notification by October 12.

The google link below is for those interested in attending (so we know who to send the zoom link to) AND those submitting potential talks.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and we sincerely hope you join us for this event!
